All Blinds
Vertical blinds
Vertical blinds are made up of vertical strips of fabric that are attached to a runner rail at the top
and to adjacent strips by a beaded chain that runs the length of the vertical blind.
Brackets and extension brackets are used to hang the head rail for the vertical blinds.
The vertical blind blades can be rotated a full 180 degrees to enable you to put the blades
in the best position for your privacy yet still allow light into the room.
You can't totally blockout the light with the vertical blinds.
Regardless of which type of fabric you select, you will have light transmission around all four sides of the vertical blind
where a clearance allowance has been made so as the blind can rotate freely.

Vertical Blind Most Important Aspects
The four most important aspects of a vertical blind are:
- fabric quality
- tracking system quality
- fabric colour
- price
Vertical Blinds Fabric Quality
There are different types of vertical blinds fabric including:
- light weight fabric
- medium weight fabric
- heavier weight fabric
- 100% blockout fabrics
The quality of fabric required depends on where you will locate your vertical blinds.
Vertical Blinds Heavier Weight Fabric
You should consider a heavier weight fabric for blinds in working areas such as:
- laundry
- kitchen
- bathroom
- over a sliding door
Blinds in working areas tend to be cleaned more often because of a quicker build up of dirt, grime etc. Heavier weight fabrics tend to be more robust than lighter weight fabrics.
Vertical Blinds Light to Medium Weight Fabric
You need a light to medium weight fabric for blinds in rooms such as:
- bedrooms
- lounge rooms
- family rooms
Vertical Blinds Blade Selection
Blades selection width for your vertical blinds is determined by:
- physical restraints of the actual window
- your personal preference
- price (a wider blade is cheaper)
Vertical Blinds Bottom Weight Chains
It is a personal choice to have bottom weight chains for your vertical blinds or not.
There are arguments for and against it.
The benefits of having a bottom chain:
the chains hold the blades together collectively and reduce the amount of movement of the blind in a breeze.
The negative of having a bottom chain:
you may need to re-clip the bottom chain occasionally if children and pets pull at them.
The chains will not fall of the blind of their own free will, they must be pulled off.
The benefit of not having a bottom chain:
children and pets do not get tangled up in them and pull them off.
The negative of not having a bottom chain:
the leading edge blades tend to fly around in a breeze as they do not have the combined drag of the other blades holding them down.
